Oshkosh Man Arrested After Allegedly Firing Into Business, Injuring One
An Oshkosh man is in custody following a disturbing early morning shooting that left one man injured and a local business rattled. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on Friday, shaking the typically quiet 400 block of North Main Street in Oshkosh.
According to the Oshkosh Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:50 a.m. after reports came in of gunfire being directed into a business that was occupied by several individuals at the time. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who had sustained a gunshot wound. The severity of the injury was not detailed, but officials confirmed that the victim was immediately transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.
The suspect fled the scene on foot before police arrived. However, quick thinking and collaboration between agencies led to his capture within half an hour. Officers were able to gather a description of the suspect from witnesses on the scene, which proved vital in locating him.
With assistance from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect — identified as a 39-year-old male resident of Oshkosh — was located and apprehended around 2:15 a.m. within city limits. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to jail, where he now faces a charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
Authorities have not released the names of either the victim or the suspect at this time, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
The motive for the shooting has yet to be revealed, and investigators continue to piece together what led to the violent outburst. What is clear, however, is that the incident could have had even more tragic consequences given the number of people present in the business at the time of the shooting.
Local residents and business owners have expressed concern and disbelief over the incident. “It’s really unsettling. This area is usually pretty calm, especially at that hour,” said one nearby resident who wished to remain anonymous.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who has additional information to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the Oshkosh Police Department or anonymously through local crime stoppers channels.
The shooting remains under investigation, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days as authorities continue their work. In the meantime, the Oshkosh community is left grappling with the aftermath of an incident that brought gun violence far too close to home.
