In Loving Memory of Jose Maria Gonzales Linares
Chester County, South Carolina | April 18, 2025
It is with unimaginable sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Jose Maria Gonzales Linares, a bright and beloved eighth-grade student at Pine Ridge Middle School, who tragically lost his life in a school bus accident on April 18, 2025. His sudden departure has left the community of Chester County—and the entire Lexington Two School District—grappling with a profound and painful loss.
At just 14 years old, Jose Maria had already left a deep and lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Described by teachers as a hardworking, respectful, and compassionate student, and remembered by classmates as funny, kind-hearted, and always willing to help, Jose brought joy into the lives of those around him in quiet but powerful ways.
His smile could brighten even the hardest day. Whether it was lending a hand to a peer who was struggling or making someone laugh during lunch, Jose had a way of connecting with people that was effortless and genuine. He had dreams, hopes, and a future that held so much promise—and while his time with us was far too short, the light he brought into this world will never fade.
The tragedy unfolded on a Friday morning that began like any other but ended in heartbreak. The school bus carrying Jose and other students was involved in a catastrophic accident, the details of which are still under investigation. Emergency responders, educators, and community members rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Jose could not be saved.
In the days since, an overwhelming wave of grief and love has washed over the Pine Ridge and Chester County communities. Vigils have been held, memorials have been created, and classmates, friends, and educators have come together in remembrance. Counselors and support staff have been made available at the school, as everyone works through the emotions of this devastating loss.
To the Gonzales Linares family, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences. We cannot begin to understand the depth of your pain, but we surround you with love, support, and the strength of a community that stands with you. Jose was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
As we mourn, we also celebrate the life of a young soul who left an unforgettable mark on our hearts. We will remember Jose for his gentle nature, his warmth, his laughter, and his spirit. We will honor him by carrying forward his kindness and his light.
May you rest in peace, Jose Maria Gonzales Linares.
You are forever in our thoughts.
