In a harrowing incident that underscores the dangers of impersonating law enforcement, a Florida woman has been arrested after allegedly abducting her ex-boyfriend’s wife by posing as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.
On April 10, 2025, 52-year-old Latrance Battle entered a hotel in Panama City, Florida, where the victim worked. Dressed in a shirt emblazoned with “ICE,” Battle presented a sheriff’s office business card and carried a hand-held radio, creating a convincing façade of authority. The victim, who is in the process of obtaining legal U.S. residency, believed Battle to be a legitimate official and agreed to accompany her.
However, instead of heading to a law enforcement facility, Battle diverted to an apartment complex. During the drive, she confiscated the victim’s phone and made a threatening remark referencing the victim’s husband. The situation took a critical turn when the victim managed to escape with the assistance of a neighbor and contacted authorities.
Battle was apprehended the following day while attempting to flee to Alabama. She now faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, robbery by sudden snatching, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and violating probation. A video of her arrest was shared by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident highlights the severe implications of impersonating law enforcement officials and the potential harm to unsuspecting individuals. Our thoughts are with the victim and her loved ones during this distressing time.
