JACKSONVILLE, FL – Tragic Shooting Claims Life of Woman in Northside Home

Jacksonville, FL – April 23, 2025 — A quiet residential neighborhood on the Northside of Jacksonville was the scene of a tragic act of violence early Tuesday morning, as a woman was fatally shot inside a home, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire around 2:15 a.m. at a residence located in the 11000 block of Biscayne Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home. Despite efforts by emergency medical personnel to render aid, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not yet been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin. However, JSO confirmed that she was an adult female believed to be in her late 30s or early 40s. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were on scene for several hours Tuesday morning, working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sgt. A. Simmons of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office during a brief press conference outside the crime scene. “We are actively investigating this case and following up on all available leads.”

While details remain limited, JSO confirmed that at least one other person was inside the home at the time of the shooting. That individual has been taken in for questioning, though no arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon. Investigators are working to determine the relationship between the individuals involved and whether the shooting was domestic in nature or the result of some other altercation.

Neighbors expressed shock and sadness at the news, describing the area as generally quiet and family-oriented.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said a nearby resident who asked not to be identified. “You don’t expect something like this to happen so close to home. We’re all just praying for the victim’s family.”

Several streets surrounding the home were temporarily blocked off as investigators processed the scene, collected evidence, and canvassed the area for surveillance footage or potential witnesses.

JSO is urging anyone who may have information about the incident, including sightings of suspicious activity in the area during the early morning hours, to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-866-845-TIPS or through the official JSO website.

As the investigation continues, community leaders and local advocates are once again calling attention to the ongoing issue of gun violence in Jacksonville. This marks one of several fatal shootings in the city in recent weeks, sparking renewed concern and discussions about safety and prevention.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has pledged to keep the public informed as more details emerge in the coming days.
