Sophie Nyweide, a former child actress known for her roles alongside Michelle Williams and Russell Crowe, has died at the age of 24. Her body was discovered on April 14, 2025, in a wooded area near a makeshift structure in Bennington, Vermont, approximately 25 miles from her home in Manchester Center. Authorities have confirmed that she was pregnant at the time of her death, though the stage of her pregnancy remains undisclosed.
Nyweide began her acting career at the age of six, debuting in the 2006 film Bella. She gained recognition for her performances in Margot at the Wedding (2007), Mammoth (2009), and Darren Aronofsky’s Noah (2014). Her television appearances included an episode of Law & Order and a 2015 segment on What Would You Do?
According to an obituary shared by her family, Nyweide struggled with trauma and shame, leading her to self-medicate. Despite support from loved ones and professionals, she reportedly resisted seeking professional treatment for her health issues.
The cause of her death is still under investigation. Authorities are considering various possibilities, including foul play and accidental overdose. A man present at the time of her death is cooperating with investigators and is not considered a suspect.
In her memory, Nyweide’s family has requested donations to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), reflecting her advocacy for vulnerable individuals.
