In August 2024, a tragic incident unfolded at a Taco Bell drive-thru in Stow, Ohio, where 25-year-old Megan Keleman was fatally shot by 53-year-old Jason Williams, who then took his own life. The confrontation began when Williams, reportedly upset that Keleman had pulled in front of him in the drive-thru line, honked his horn and struck the rear of her vehicle. Keleman requested the Taco Bell employee to call the police. Before officers could arrive, Williams exited his vehicle and shot Keleman before turning the gun on himself.
Investigations revealed that Williams had a prior arrest in March 2024 for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and improper handling of a firearm. During that arrest, his blood alcohol content was recorded at .199, and a loaded Glock 30 pistol was found in his vehicle. He was released on bond with conditions that prohibited him from possessing firearms . Additionally, Williams had been enrolled in an alcohol monitoring program but was terminated for non-compliance .
The community mourned the loss of Keleman, a recent MBA graduate from Cleveland State University who worked with at-risk youth at Shelter Care, Inc. Her family has since established “Megan’s Rainbow of Hope,” a scholarship fund in her memory .
This incident underscores the critical importance of enforcing court-ordered restrictions, especially concerning individuals with a history of substance abuse and firearm violations.
