I am absolutely devastated by the sudden passing of Jason Schreyer.

Jason was a bright light in our lives — a passionate, dedicated, and deeply principled person who gave so much of himself to the world around him. His loss is not just personal; it’s a tremendous blow to our community and the greater movement for justice, equity, and progress that he so fiercely believed in.

From the moment I met Jason, it was clear that he was someone who didn’t just talk about making a difference — he lived it every single day. Whether it was organizing for progressive causes, knocking on doors in the cold, staying up late planning the next campaign, or simply being there when someone needed a hand or a voice of reason, Jason showed up. Always. He brought an unmatched energy to the work — a combination of urgency, heart, and sharp intellect — and inspired so many others to give just a little more than they thought they could.

He also brought joy — so much of it. I have countless memories of Jason that make me smile even through the heartbreak: singing karaoke at the top of our lungs, laughing over obscure municipal politics, exchanging inside jokes at campaign headquarters, and having those deep, late-night conversations that somehow made the world seem a little more manageable. Jason had this incredible ability to be both fiercely committed and incredibly fun — he made the work lighter just by being himself.

More than anything, I was lucky to call Jason a friend. He was someone you could trust, someone who cared deeply, and someone who made you feel seen. His generosity of spirit, his humor, and his unwavering commitment to a better world are just some of the many things I will carry with me forever.

His loss is monumental. It’s hard to imagine this world without him — without his voice, his vision, his laughter. But I know that his impact will live on in the countless people he inspired, supported, and stood beside. In that way, his legacy is very much alive.

To Sarah, Jared, Ed, Lily, and the entire Schreyer family — I am holding you all in my heart during this unimaginably difficult time. Jason loved you so deeply, and my love and condolences are with you.

Rest in power, Jason. We miss you more than words can express.
