We lost Joey, my godsister’s son, in an act of senseless violence. Joey, just 17 years old, was among those who were shot and killed in South Minneapolis. My heart aches for him, and even more for the incredible pain his loss brings to my ma and my sisters. The weight of this loss is even heavier because they have already endured so much grief over the past couple of years.
The pain this family is going through right now is indescribable, and it’s difficult to find words to capture the depth of the sorrow that my loved ones are feeling. Joey was a bright, young soul with so much life ahead of him, and his life was tragically cut short by circumstances that no one should ever have to face.
