Animal Incident at Local Wildlife Facility in Birch Run Leaves Employee Injured

Birch Run, MI — At approximately 11:45 a.m. today, the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department responded to an emergency call reporting an animal-related injury at a local wildlife facility located at 11721 Gera Road in Birch Run Township.

Preliminary reports confirm that the incident involved a 30-year-old female employee of the facility, identified as “Wilderness Trails,” who sustained injuries caused by a bobcat housed on the premises. According to witnesses and facility staff, the bobcat clawed the employee in the area of her head, resulting in visible bleeding. The exact circumstances leading to the incident are under investigation, but it is believed that the animal became agitated during routine handling or feeding procedures.

Other staff members acted swiftly to contain the animal, preventing further escalation and ensuring the safety of other personnel and visitors on site. The bobcat was secured in its enclosure immediately following the incident and remains under close observation by facility professionals.

The injured employee was quickly attended to by onsite personnel and emergency responders. She is currently receiving medical treatment from local emergency medical services, and her condition is being monitored. No other injuries have been reported at this time.

The Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department is coordinating with animal control officers and facility management to conduct a full investigation into the matter. Authorities will be reviewing safety protocols and determining whether any violations or failures in procedure may have contributed to the incident.

“Our priority is the health and safety of both the employees who work with these animals and the community that visits these types of facilities,” said a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department. “We commend the swift action of the staff members who managed to contain the situation and prevent further injury.”

Further details will be released as the investigation continues. The Sheriff’s Department urges the public to refrain from speculation until all facts are established.
