Police in the Highlands are urgently appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Wick on the night of Wednesday, 30 April 2025.
The tragic incident took place at approximately 10:25 p.m. on the B874 near Watten Cemetery and involved a grey Yamaha motorcycle and a red Renault Clio. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, and the 18-year-old male rider of the motorcycle was transported to Caithness General Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly succumbed to his injuries. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers during this incredibly difficult time.
The occupants of the Renault Clio—both the driver and a passenger—were not injured in the collision. However, the emotional impact of being involved in such a devastating incident is significant, and support is being made available to them as well.
Due to the severity of the crash, the B874 road was closed for several hours to allow for a full collision investigation to take place. Investigators worked through the night to gather evidence and assess the scene, and the road was reopened to the public at approximately 6:55 a.m. on Thursday, 1 May 2025.
Sergeant Calum MacAulay of Road Policing North provided the following statement:
“Our inquiries are continuing to understand the full circumstances of what happened. Sadly, the male motorcyclist died, and our thoughts are with his family and friends. This is a tragic loss of a young life, and we are doing everything we can to piece together the events that led to this incident.
“I would ask anyone who may have seen either the car or the motorbike prior to the crash—or who may have relevant dash-cam footage—to contact us as soon as possible. Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial in helping us establish the full facts.”
Police Scotland is urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision, seen either of the vehicles involved in the moments leading up to the crash, or who may have relevant video or photographic evidence to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 4119 of Wednesday, 30 April 2025.
This appeal serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of road traffic collisions and the importance of community cooperation in helping authorities understand and respond to such events.
