It is with Profound Sorrow that Toronto Paramedic Services Announces the Sudden Passing of Advanced Care Paramedic Kevin Mills

Toronto Paramedic Services deeply mourns the unexpected and tragic loss of one of its own. It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Advanced Care Paramedic Kevin Mills, who died at his home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the age of 44, due to unforeseen medical complications.

Kevin’s passing is not only a personal loss to his family, friends, and colleagues, but also a tremendous loss to the entire Toronto Paramedic Services community and the many lives he touched throughout his distinguished career. Kevin was more than just a paramedic — he was a steadfast professional, a compassionate caregiver, a supportive colleague, and a dear friend to many.

Kevin began his journey with Toronto Emergency Medical Services in 2001, where he quickly distinguished himself as a committed and dependable paramedic. His calm demeanor, empathy, and unwavering focus during times of extreme crisis made him a beacon of strength for both his patients and teammates. From the very beginning, Kevin was known for his natural ability to connect with people. Whether it was on a difficult call, mentoring a new recruit, or supporting a grieving family, Kevin approached each situation with dignity, kindness, and a deep sense of purpose.

In 2005, Kevin advanced to the rank of Advanced Care Paramedic — a position that reflected not only his technical skill and clinical knowledge but also his deep commitment to delivering the highest standard of care. Over the next two decades, Kevin would respond to thousands of calls across the city, saving lives, easing suffering, and often going above and beyond the call of duty. His dedication to continuous learning and excellence in patient care was evident in every shift he worked.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kevin was a cherished member of the Toronto Paramedic Services family. He was a quiet leader — someone who led by example, always willing to lend a hand, share his experience, or offer a word of encouragement. He had a dry sense of humor that lightened the weight of even the most difficult days and a steady presence that made those around him feel safe and supported. For his colleagues, Kevin was more than a co-worker; he was a brother in service, a mentor, and a friend.

Kevin also took great pride in supporting the development of future paramedics. He served as a preceptor for many new recruits, generously sharing his expertise and insights. His legacy will continue through the many paramedics he helped shape — professionals who now carry forward the values he embodied: compassion, integrity, humility, and strength.

Off duty, Kevin was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and someone who embraced life with quiet grace. He loved the outdoors, had a passion for music, and found joy in the simple moments with those closest to him. His warmth and sincerity left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

As we come to terms with this devastating loss, Toronto Paramedic Services extends its deepest condolences to Kevin’s family, friends, and all those who mourn his passing. We share in your grief and will stand with you in the days ahead.

In the coming days, details regarding a memorial service and opportunities to honor Kevin’s life and service will be shared with our community. Toronto Paramedic Services will also be offering peer support and counseling resources to staff impacted by this loss.

We are heartbroken. Kevin Mills will be remembered not only for his years of dedicated service but for the kindness, courage, and humanity he brought to every life he touched. His legacy lives on in the lives he saved, the colleagues he inspired, and the community he so faithfully served.

Rest in peace, Kevin. Your watch has ended, but your light endures.
