Platteville, CO – April 28, 2025 —

It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt respect that the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District announces the passing of Paramedic Nate Klimek, a dedicated public servant, compassionate caregiver, and beloved friend to many. Paramedic Klimek passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, leaving behind not only a grieving department and mourning community but, most tragically, a loving family—his wife and three young children.

Nate Klimek was more than just a paramedic; he was a vital part of the lifeblood of this department. Since joining the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District, Nate served with unwavering professionalism, quiet strength, and a commitment to service that inspired all who worked alongside him. He responded to countless calls with skill, compassion, and humility—never seeking praise, always focused on the people he was helping.

Throughout his tenure, Nate exemplified the core values of the fire and emergency medical services: duty, integrity, and selflessness. He was known by his peers for his steady demeanor in the face of crisis, his eagerness to mentor new recruits, and his tireless commitment to improving the safety and wellbeing of the Platteville and Gilcrest communities. Whether on an emergency call, during community outreach, or at the station between shifts, Nate brought kindness and humor that brightened every room.

For many in our district, Nate was more than a colleague—he was family. He was the teammate who stayed late to help clean up after a call, the friend who remembered birthdays and shared coffee at dawn, the steady presence who always had your back when the alarms went off. His absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled, and the impact of his life and legacy will be felt for years to come.

Beyond his role as a paramedic, Nate was a devoted husband and a loving father to three young children. He spoke often of his family with pride and joy. His eyes lit up when he talked about time spent with his kids, coaching their games, helping with homework, or simply enjoying the small, meaningful moments that meant everything to him. His dedication to his family was as unwavering as his dedication to his community.

As we mourn the passing of Paramedic Nate Klimek, we also honor the life he lived and the countless lives he touched. In the coming days, the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District will be working closely with Nate’s family to support them through this unimaginably difficult time. Memorial details and ways for the public to support the Klimek family will be shared as they become available.

We ask that the community keep Nate’s family, friends, and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers. Let us remember Nate not only for his heroism and sacrifice but for the kind, compassionate man he was—a man who gave everything to his community and asked for nothing in return.

Rest in peace, Nate. Your service, your spirit, and your humanity will never be forgotten.
