Las Vegas, NV – In a heartbreaking development that has left the community reeling, the Las Vegas Athletic Club (LVAC) has confirmed the identity of the victim killed in a fatal shooting that occurred Friday afternoon at one of its gym locations. The incident took place at the LVAC facility situated on Rainbow Boulevard near Vegas Drive, where longtime employee Edgar Quinonez tragically lost his life.
According to authorities and statements released by LVAC, Edgar Quinonez, a beloved and dedicated team member who had worked at the fitness center for 15 years, was fatally shot inside the premises during what is being described as a sudden and senseless act of violence. The shooting happened in broad daylight, prompting a swift and overwhelming response from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), who quickly secured the scene and began an active investigation.
The LVAC community, as well as patrons of the gym, were left in disbelief and mourning. Members described the moment chaos erupted inside the gym as they were ushered out of the building by emergency responders. Witnesses reported hearing loud noises, initially mistaking them for something innocuous, before realizing the gravity of the situation.
“He was always smiling, always helping. He knew everyone’s name,” said longtime gym member Maria Lopez, who became emotional as she recounted her interactions with Quinonez. “This isn’t just a loss for his family or LVAC—this is a loss for our entire community.”
Quinonez had built a reputation as a fixture at the gym—someone who not only maintained the facility with care but went out of his way to create a warm, inclusive environment for members. Many described him as the heart of the Rainbow location, a reliable presence who took pride in his work and always offered a kind word or support to those around him.
“He was part of the LVAC family for over 15 years,” said a spokesperson for the athletic club in a written statement. “Edgar’s dedication, work ethic, and positivity touched the lives of countless members and staff. We are devastated by this tragedy and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation.”
Authorities have not yet released specific details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including whether a suspect is in custody or what the motive may have been. However, police have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat and that all efforts are being made to bring clarity and justice to this senseless loss of life.
As the investigation unfolds, the local community has begun rallying around Quinonez’s family. Vigils and memorials are being planned, and a growing number of gym members and friends have taken to social media to express their grief and share stories of the positive impact Edgar had on their lives.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched Saturday morning to support Quinonez’s family with funeral expenses and other immediate needs. Within hours, it began gaining traction, with heartfelt messages pouring in alongside donations.
“Edgar was one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Always working hard, always saying hello. He didn’t deserve this,” read one of the messages. “He was more than a gym employee—he was a friend, a light in the room. We’ll miss him terribly.”
The LVAC Rainbow Boulevard location remains temporarily closed out of respect for the victim and to allow authorities to complete their investigation. Additional security measures and support staff, including grief counselors, have been arranged for other LVAC locations to support employees and members affected by the incident.
As Las Vegas grapples with this unexpected tragedy, one thing remains clear: Edgar Quinonez’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and community spirit will not be forgotten.
