Jupiter Man Daniel Nobile Charged with Attempted Murder After Allegedly Firing Gun at Golfers at Abacoa Golf Club

JUPITER, Fla. — May 29, 2025:What began as a quiet afternoon on the lush greens of Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter turned into a terrifying ordeal when gunfire erupted across a peaceful residential lake bordering the course. Police say 27-year-old Daniel Nobile now faces four counts of attempted second-degree murder after allegedly firing a gun at a group of unsuspecting golfers from his backyard on Tuesday evening.

According to a probable cause affidavit released by the Jupiter Police Department, the shooting incident occurred around 6 p.m. on May 27. Officers rushed to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported shots fired near hole three of the golf course — a scenic area that winds around a lake and backs up to several homes in the upscale Abacoa community.

When officers arrived, they spoke to four men who had been golfing together, all of whom gave harrowing accounts of how their afternoon game nearly turned deadly. The golfers said they were playing the third hole when they heard a series of loud pops. At first, one victim said he thought it was fireworks — until he turned and saw a man on the opposite side of the lake pointing what looked like a handgun in their direction.

“He Was Just Pointing and Shooting”

The victims said the man, later identified as Nobile, was moving along the edge of his backyard with his back against the house, appearing to aim directly at them as they stood out in the open. Panicked, the four men jumped into their golf carts and sped off the course to get away from the line of fire, later calling police once they reached safety.

Remarkably, none of the golfers were injured. Police noted that although the rounds did not strike the victims, Nobile’s actions clearly demonstrated a willingness to cause harm, leading to the four attempted murder charges.

Swift Police Investigation Leads to Arrest

Officers quickly zeroed in on a home adjacent to the golf course that matched the angle from which the shots were believed to have originated. There, they were met by a family friend of the Nobiles, who told police she had just arrived after receiving a distressed call from Nobile’s sister, who was inside the house and frightened by what she described as “loud pops.”

When the family friend confronted Nobile, he told her “everything was fine,” despite the growing chaos just outside. Police made contact with Nobile’s parents, who were not home at the time but confirmed that there was a firearm — a Glock 17 — in the residence.

During a search of the home, officers discovered the Glock pistol in the garage, hidden and wrapped in a cloth. Forensics teams later took possession of the weapon as evidence.

Arrest, Court Appearance, and Mental Health Concerns

Nobile was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. He appeared in court the following day, where a judge ordered no bond pending the results of a mental health evaluation. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether Nobile has a history of mental illness, but sources close to the investigation say the evaluation will play a critical role in determining how the case proceeds.

The judge also reset the case for June 10, allowing time for prosecutors and defense attorneys to assess Nobile’s mental state and gather further evidence.

Police Chief Describes “Chilling” Incident

In a press briefing Wednesday afternoon, Jupiter Police Chief Frank Kitzerow described the incident as “chilling,” emphasizing that innocent lives were put in grave danger.

“This wasn’t a warning shot. This wasn’t a misfire. This was a man who deliberately pointed a loaded firearm at strangers enjoying a round of golf,” said Chief Kitzerow. “It is nothing short of a miracle that no one was hurt or killed.”

He also praised the rapid response of officers and the cooperation of witnesses in helping secure a quick arrest. “Thanks to the bravery of the victims and the professionalism of our team, we were able to bring this dangerous situation under control swiftly.”

Community Shocked by Violence in Peaceful Neighborhood

The Abacoa Golf Club and its surrounding neighborhoods are typically known for their tranquility, attracting families, retirees, and avid golfers alike. Tuesday’s shooting has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents expressing disbelief that such violence could occur in such a serene setting.

“I walk my dog past that house every evening,” said one resident who lives two streets over. “It’s frightening to think this could happen right here, during something as routine as a game of golf.”

Looking Ahead

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has additional information to come forward. Prosecutors are expected to file formal charges once the mental health evaluation is completed and additional forensic results are processed.

In the meantime, Abacoa Golf Club has resumed normal operations, though staff say additional security measures are being considered in response to the incident.
