Volusia Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Teen in Deltona Park Assault

Volusia Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 15-year-old boy after he pistol-whipped another teen during an altercation at a Deltona park earlier this week.

Nyziah Quiles (DOB: 03/08/2010) has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a felony, following the incident that occurred around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Dewey Boster Park.

According to the victim, he was at the park with his girlfriend when a group of teens approached him regarding a prior conflict that occurred at school. During the confrontation, one of the teens—identified only as “Junie” at the time—pulled out a handgun and struck the victim on the side of the head before engaging in a physical fight.

Deputies obtained surveillance video from the park capturing the altercation. Through the course of their investigation, detectives identified “Junie” as Quiles, based on prior encounters. On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Quiles was taken into custody at his residence in Deltona.

Detectives later recovered the weapon—a 9mm handgun used in the assault—hidden inside a crossbody bag and concealed in the garage of one of Quiles’ acquaintances.

Further investigation linked Quiles to a series of vehicle break-ins that occurred on May 3, 2025. In that case, two firearms and a vehicle were reported stolen. Detectives confirmed that the handgun used in the park assault was one of the weapons stolen during the earlier break-ins.

In connection to those incidents, Quiles also faces additional charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, armed burglary, and grand theft of a firearm.

The investigation remains active. Detectives continue to interview other juveniles who may have been involved and are executing a search warrant as part of the ongoing case.
