The Troy Police Department is currently conducting an active and thorough investigation into a tragic accidental shooting that occurred earlier today, leaving a young child in critical condition.

At approximately 4:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence located on Crooks Road following an urgent request for medical assistance involving a child with a severe injury. Upon arrival, first responders found a 9-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was quickly stabilized at the scene and transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

The child’s condition remains critical, and medical personnel are continuing to provide intensive care.

During the initial investigation, a firearm was recovered inside the home. At this time, investigators are working diligently to understand how the child was able to access the weapon and to reconstruct the events that led up to the shooting.
