Tragedy in Baldwin Park: Police Officer Killed, Another Wounded in Ambush Shooting; Civilian Also Found Dead
the evening of Saturday, May 31, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Baldwin Park, California, resulting in the death of a police officer, injuries to another officer, and the fatal shooting of a civilian.
At approximately 7:12 p.m., officers responded to reports of rifle fire and a person down in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue. Upon arrival, they were immediately met with gunfire from a suspect. One officer was fatally shot, and another sustained injuries but is currently in stable condition. Additionally, a male civilian was found dead at the scene. The suspect, an adult male, was also injured during the exchange and is now hospitalized and in custody.
The incident prompted a significant response from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, as well as West Covina and El Monte police departments. Surveillance footage captured multiple volleys of gunfire, with witnesses describing the sounds as resembling fireworks.
Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert A. López paid tribute to the fallen officer, describing him as an “amazing man” and expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy. The identities of the victims and the suspect have not been released as the investigation continues.
