SUSPECT FOUND UNCONSCIOUS IN VEHICLE WITH MACHETE, DRUGS
On June 3, 2025, deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Justin Michael Ray Worley after discovering him unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle obstructing traffic near the intersection of Alva Drive and Reona Avenue.
Dispatch had received a report regarding a suspicious vehicle blocking the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies found Worley slumped over in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still engaged in drive and his foot pressing on the brake pedal. A machete was also observed lying beside him in the vehicle.
After deputies managed to rouse Worley, he voluntarily admitted to possessing illegal drugs and paraphernalia both on his person and inside the vehicle. A subsequent search confirmed the presence of heroin and methamphetamine within the vehicle.
In addition to the drug charges, Worley was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle.
Current Status:
Worley was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. He currently remains in custody, awaiting a bond hearing.
