On the afternoon of Friday, June 6, 2025, the Summerville community was shaken by a tragic shooting that claimed the life of Christopher Chapman, a local resident. The incident occurred around 12:36 p.m. on the 100 block of Oak Street, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Chapman lying unresponsive in the roadway with a critical gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Chattooga ER, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The sudden loss has left the community in mourning.

Law enforcement acted swiftly, identifying a suspect within an hour of the shooting. A coordinated effort involving the Summerville Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office led to the apprehension of the individual during a traffic stop on Taylor Ridge.
