Deadly Daylight Shooting Outside Copeland’s Restaurant Rocks Jacksonville Community

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A routine afternoon turned deadly outside a popular local eatery when gunfire rang out near Copeland’s restaurant on Southside Boulevard. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is actively investigating the tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one man dead and multiple individuals in police custody.

According to preliminary reports from JSO, the shooting took place in the parking lot of Copeland’s around 2:30 p.m. Officers responded swiftly to the scene after numerous 911 calls reported a disturbance and the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene in which multiple individuals appeared to be involved in an altercation moments before shots were fired. Several suspects attempted to flee the scene but were quickly apprehended by officers in the vicinity. Investigators have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending next-of-kin notification, nor have they publicly identified the suspects taken into custody.

JSO has confirmed that homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding businesses. Authorities believe the shooting may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute, though they have not ruled out other motives, including possible gang affiliation or retaliation.

Traffic in the area was briefly rerouted as officers secured the crime scene and collected evidence. The public is being asked to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
