Beaumont, TX — June 12, 2025 — Authorities Seek Public’s Help to Locate Person of Interest in Violent Road Rage Shooting

The city of Beaumont, Texas, is on edge after a disturbing road rage incident escalated into gunfire on Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2025. The Beaumont Police Department is actively investigating the violent episode, which left one individual hospitalized and the community shaken. Authorities have now identified 26-year-old Asa Jones, a resident of Beaumont, as a person of interest in the case. While Jones has not been formally charged, law enforcement is urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

The incident occurred in broad daylight on a busy stretch of Eastex Freeway near the Delaware Street exit, just after 3:00 p.m. According to preliminary reports, the altercation began as a verbal dispute between the drivers of two vehicles — a white Dodge Charger and a dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe — and quickly escalated into violence. Witnesses reported seeing the occupants of the vehicles engaging in aggressive driving, weaving through traffic and exchanging heated words, before the situation turned deadly.

Moments later, several gunshots rang out, sending nearby motorists into a panic. The driver of the Dodge Charger, a 34-year-old man whose identity has not yet been released by police, was struck multiple times and lost control of the vehicle. He was rushed to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital by emergency responders and is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

The suspect vehicle, believed to be the Chevrolet Tahoe, fled the scene at high speed. Surveillance footage and witness statements helped investigators quickly identify Asa Jones as a person of interest in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not publicly confirmed Jones’ exact involvement but stressed the urgency in locating him for questioning.

“We want to be clear that Mr. Jones is currently a person of interest. This does not mean he is guilty of any crime, but we believe he may have information that is crucial to our investigation,” said Beaumont Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Cheryl Thomas in a press briefing Friday morning. “We are asking for the community’s help in locating Mr. Jones to bring clarity and justice to all those affected by this violent act.”

Jones is described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing around 185 pounds, with short hair and several visible tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, dark jeans, and a baseball cap. Police say he may still be in the Southeast Texas area, though they are not ruling out the possibility that he has traveled beyond the region.

The shooting has left many in the community alarmed and searching for answers. Road rage incidents have been on the rise across the country, but this latest case has struck a particularly sensitive chord among Beaumont residents, who are calling for calm and civility on the roads.

“This is heartbreaking,” said longtime resident Teresa Hill, who works near the scene of the incident. “We drive these roads every day. To think something like this could happen over something so trivial is terrifying.”

As investigators continue to piece together the timeline of events leading up to the shooting, police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477). A reward may be offered for information that leads to the location of Asa Jones or a breakthrough in the case.

This is a developing story, and the Beaumont Police Department has assured the public that updates will be provided as new information becomes available. In the meantime, they are reminding residents to avoid confrontation on the road and to report any suspicious or aggressive driving behavior to law enforcement immediately.

Anyone with information regarding Asa Jones or the shooting incident is urged to contact the Beaumont Police Department at (409) 832-1234 or to submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

The community of Beaumont remains hopeful that justice will be served and that peace will soon be restored in the wake of this tragic and senseless act of violence.
