Franklin Police Arrest Suspect in Friday Night Shooting Outside Vape World
FRANKLIN, TN — A 32-year-old man is in custody following a violent altercation that escalated into a shooting in Franklin on Friday night. The Franklin Police Department (FPD) confirmed that Charles Crain has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, which occurred outside Vape World, a local retail shop located on West Main Street.
Authorities say the shooting took place around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, in the parking lot of the establishment. According to investigators, the incident began as a heated confrontation between two men. The argument quickly escalated, culminating in Crain allegedly pulling a firearm and discharging it.
Fortunately, the intended victim was not physically injured during the encounter, but police described the situation as “highly dangerous” and charged Crain accordingly. He was arrested shortly after the incident and booked on serious felony charges including Attempted Criminal Homicide and Aggravated Assault.
Crain is currently being held at the Williamson County Jail on a bond totaling $825,000. His first court appearance is expected early next week.
In a press release, Franklin Police emphasized that the shooting was not random and stemmed from a personal dispute between the two individuals. Detectives are still working to determine the nature of the disagreement and whether any prior history existed between the parties involved.
“This kind of reckless violence puts lives at risk and won’t be tolerated in our community,” said FPD Public Information Officer Lt. Charles Warner. “We are thankful no one was injured in this case, but the outcome could have been very different. We’re proud of the swift response by our patrol officers and detectives in making this arrest.”
Vape World, the business outside of which the shooting occurred, was briefly closed as investigators processed the scene. Witnesses were interviewed and surveillance footage from nearby businesses was reviewed to aid in the investigation.
The Franklin Police Department is encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or has information that could assist in the case to contact their non-emergency line or submit tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
This incident marks another troubling episode of gun violence rooted in personal disputes, and community leaders are urging calm while the legal process moves forward. No further details about the case or the identity of the other individual involved have been released at this time.
Crain remains in custody as the investigation continues. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
