Genesee Woman Killed in Tragic Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash Near Outdoor Adventures Campground

RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded late Friday night in Richfield Township, Genesee County, when a 48-year-old woman lost her life in a hit-and-run motorcycle crash near the Outdoor Adventures campground.

According to the Richfield Township Police Department, the fatal collision occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Richfield Road, just west of the campground’s entrance. The woman, a resident of Genesee, had been riding westbound on a motorcycle, enjoying a night ride with her husband, who was following closely behind on a separate bike.

Tragically, a gray 2015 Jeep Cherokee pulled out from the campground’s driveway, crossing directly into the woman’s path. The sudden movement gave the motorcyclist no time to react or avoid impact. The resulting collision was catastrophic.

Emergency crews responded swiftly, and the severely injured woman was transported by ambulance to Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Despite the tireless efforts of medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries overnight.

What deepens the pain of this tragedy is the behavior of the driver responsible. Police say the driver of the Jeep Cherokee fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving behind a devastated husband, a mangled motorcycle, and a community now reeling from the loss. Officers who arrived on scene found debris that helped them identify the suspect vehicle. Investigators have determined that the vehicle involved is a gray 2015 Jeep Cherokee, likely with significant damage on the driver’s side.

As of Saturday, the suspect remained at large. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash, seen the damaged vehicle, or has information about the identity of the driver to come forward. The Richfield Township Police Department can be reached at 810-653-3565.

The name of the victim has not been publicly released pending notification of extended family. However, loved ones are already mourning the sudden and senseless loss of a woman remembered as kind-hearted, spirited, and devoted to her family.

The crash occurred in a part of Richfield Township frequented by families and travelers visiting the Outdoor Adventures campground. Locals say traffic in the area can become busy late into the night, especially on weekends, and they’re calling for both increased driver vigilance and greater law enforcement presence.

The Richfield Township Police Department continues to investigate this fatal incident, working to hold the driver accountable and bring closure to the grieving family. In the meantime, the community is being asked to remain alert and report any suspicious or damaged vehicles matching the suspect description.

As another life is lost to a preventable tragedy, this case serves as a somber reminder of the devastating impact of reckless driving and the critical importance of staying at the scene after a crash.

More updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
