In Loving Memory of Rev. Danny Harrison — Beloved Louisiana Minister and Fisherman
LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – A deep sense of sorrow has swept through the faith community and beyond following the tragic and untimely death of Reverend Danny Harrison, age 71, who was fatally injured in a freak boating accident on June 8, 2025, while fishing on the Calcasieu River near Lake Charles.
According to authorities, Rev. Harrison was thrown from his boat and struck by the propeller in a rare and devastating accident. Despite immediate emergency response efforts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His sudden loss has left family, friends, and congregants reeling with shock and grief.
Danny Harrison was more than a minister — he was a spiritual father, a mentor, a trusted friend, and a man whose love for people radiated from every word he spoke and every embrace he gave. Those who had the honor of knowing him will forever remember his towering hugs — big, warm, and full of heart — the kind of hugs that made you feel seen, safe, and deeply loved.
Born and raised in Louisiana, Danny dedicated his life to service — to God, to his family, and to the broader community. He spent decades in ministry, guiding countless souls through the highs and lows of life with unwavering faith and an open heart. Whether he was preaching from the pulpit, visiting hospital rooms, or leading a prayer at a backyard barbecue, Danny lived his faith out loud — with humility, wisdom, and an ever-present kindness.
Outside of the church, Danny was a skilled and passionate fisherman, known for spending countless tranquil mornings out on the water. The Calcasieu River, where he ultimately met his end, was a sacred place for him — a spot of solace and spiritual reflection. He often spoke about the peace he found in nature, how casting a line could feel like a conversation with God.
His love for fishing wasn’t just a hobby — it was a way he connected with others. He often took young people from his congregation or community out on the water, using those quiet moments to teach life lessons, offer advice, or simply listen. His calm presence and gentle spirit made everyone feel at ease.
Rev. Harrison is survived by his loving family, including his wife of nearly 50 years, his children and grandchildren, and a congregation of many who saw him as part of their own families. The legacy he leaves behind is not just in the sermons he preached or the prayers he offered, but in the lives he changed through compassion, service, and love.
His obituary lovingly described him as a man who “gave the absolute biggest and warmest hugs,” and for many, that single line captures the very essence of who Danny was — someone who loved with his whole heart and made the world feel just a little gentler in his presence.
A celebration of life will be held in Lake Charles in the coming days, where the community will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and bid farewell to a man whose absence will be felt deeply, but whose impact will live on.
As we mourn the heartbreaking loss of Rev. Danny Harrison, we also give thanks for the beautiful life he lived — one filled with purpose, faith, and the kind of love that makes the world better, one hug at a time.
Rest peacefully, Danny. May the waters you loved carry your spirit gently home.
