Henry County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Shooting in Finley Area
Clinton, MO – The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that occurred earlier today in the Finley area of southeastern Henry County, resulting in the death of a female resident.
At approximately 12:05 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was alerted by Central Dispatch to a reported shooting at a residence located in the 700 block of SE 1251 Private Road. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the scene. While en route, dispatchers relayed updated information indicating that the alleged suspect had already fled the location.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased adult female inside the residence. She has been identified as a resident of the home, although her name is being withheld at this time pending family notification. The area was secured as deputies and investigators from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office began processing the scene and collecting evidence.
A coordinated law enforcement effort quickly led to the apprehension of the suspect. With assistance from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located and detained the individual in Benton County shortly after the incident was reported. The suspect, whose identity is also being withheld at this time, is currently in custody and being held on a 24-hour investigative hold pending further investigation and potential formal charges.
Sheriff Kent Oberkrom emphasized that this remains a fluid and ongoing investigation, stating:
“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time. I want to thank our deputies, Benton County law enforcement, and our dispatchers for their swift response and cooperation. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.”
The motive behind the shooting, the relationship between the victim and the suspect, and the circumstances leading up to the incident are all under active review. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses, gathering forensic evidence, and working with the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office to determine the appropriate next steps.
