Shooting Investigation Underway on North Irby Street in Florence

FLORENCE, S.C. — A tragic and violent incident unfolded early Thursday morning as Florence Police officers responded to a shooting that left one person dead and another fighting for their life. The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. along North Irby Street, a typically quiet stretch that was transformed into a crime scene marked by flashing lights and a flurry of investigative activity.

Officers were dispatched following a call from a concerned passerby who reported seeing two individuals lying on the sidewalk. Upon arrival, officers discovered that both victims had sustained gunshot wounds and were unresponsive at the scene.

Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly, and both victims were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Tragically, one of the victims was later pronounced deceased, while the other remains hospitalized in critical condition, fighting for survival. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, pending family notifications.

Active Investigation

The Florence Police Department, in collaboration with the Florence County Coroner’s Office, has launched a full-scale investigation into the shooting. Detectives are working diligently to determine the timeline of events, gather surveillance footage, and interview any potential witnesses in the area.

“This is a deeply concerning and senseless act of violence,” said a spokesperson for the Florence Police Department. “Our investigators are following every lead and are committed to finding out who is responsible.”

Police have not yet announced a suspect or motive. However, officials believe this may have been a targeted act rather than a random shooting. Investigators are exploring all angles, including any connections between the victims and possible suspects.

A crime scene unit remained on-site throughout the early morning hours, collecting evidence and canvassing nearby businesses and residences for any relevant surveillance footage.
