It is with immense heartbreak and profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Sean Tenney, a devoted medical laboratory technician, gifted musician, and cherished member of the Montgomery, New York community. Sean died unexpectedly today, June 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and unwavering commitment to both his profession and the people around him.

Born and raised in Montgomery, NY, Sean’s life was deeply rooted in the Hudson Valley, where he cultivated not only his career but also enduring friendships, countless memories, and a reputation as someone who always gave more than he took.

A proud graduate of Valley Central Senior High School, Sean went on to study Secondary Education at SUNY Oneonta, before discovering his true calling in healthcare. He pursued Medical Laboratory Technology at SUNY Orange, launching a remarkable journey of more than two decades in the medical field—a journey marked by tireless work, humility, and a quiet excellence that earned him deep respect from colleagues and patients alike.

Sean’s professional career was extensive and impactful. He served as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall, where he most recently applied his skills with precision and compassion. He previously held similar roles at Crystal Run Healthcare, Horton Medical Center, and St. Anthony Community Hospital—touching countless lives with his behind-the-scenes contributions to patient care. Early in his career, he also worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Scott’s Corners Pharmacy, where he first began to nurture his instinct for helping others.

To those in his field, Sean was more than a technician—he was a trusted team member, a calming presence in stressful moments, and someone who never hesitated to go above and beyond. He brought a level of diligence and sincerity to his work that inspired those around him.

But Sean was more than his resume. Outside the lab, he was a talented musician, passionate about sharing music with those around him. Friends recall his performances as soulful and sincere, reflecting the same depth of character he carried in every other aspect of life. Whether it was a small local venue or a jam session with friends, Sean’s music came from the heart and spoke to those who listened.

Those who knew Sean speak of a man who was gentle, steady, funny, humble, and deeply loyal. He had a way of making people feel seen and appreciated, often with nothing more than a warm smile or a well-timed word of encouragement. His passing is not just a personal loss to the many who loved him—it is a collective wound felt by the communities he served and strengthened every day of his life.

In Montgomery, where he lived and grew, Sean’s absence will be felt in every familiar corner—from the hospital hallways to the quiet streets where he once walked. Tributes have already begun pouring in on social media and from colleagues and friends who are struggling to comprehend the sudden loss of someone so deeply rooted in their lives.

“Sean never asked for attention. He just showed up, did his job, and cared. He cared about people—truly,” wrote one colleague.

“He was a friend to everyone, and his laugh… his laugh could make your worst day better,” shared another.

As funeral arrangements are being made, friends, family, and coworkers are preparing to gather to celebrate the life of a man who gave so much and asked for so little in return. The details of a memorial service will be shared in the coming days, along with information about how the community can contribute to honoring Sean’s memory—whether through music, healthcare advocacy, or simply the kind acts he performed every day without recognition.

Sean Tenney is survived by his loving family, lifelong friends, medical colleagues, and a community that will never forget the steady hand and warm heart he brought into the world.

Rest in peace, Sean. You made this world gentler, safer, and kinder.
Your loss is devastating, and your absence will be felt always.
