Tragedy Averted at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan: Armed Suspect Fatally Shot by Security After Crashing Vehicle into Building During Worship Service
WAYNE, MI — June 22, 2025 — A serene Sunday morning at CrossPointe Community Church was shattered by terror as a man rammed his pickup truck into the building and began firing a weapon into the congregation. The horrifying incident, which unfolded during the church’s weekly worship service, left parishioners shocked and traumatized—but thanks to the swift actions of an on-site security guard, what could have become a mass casualty tragedy was stopped within moments.
The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Brian Browning of Romulus, Michigan. According to initial reports from the Wayne Police Department and local officials, Browning crashed his vehicle into the front of the church just after 9:30 a.m., while dozens of congregants were gathered inside for prayer, singing, and fellowship.
After crashing through the entrance, Browning reportedly exited the vehicle armed with a long gun and began firing indiscriminately toward the congregation. Panic quickly spread throughout the sanctuary as people dove for cover, scrambled to shield children, and tried to flee the building.
