Pittsburgh Shooting in East Liberty Leaves 5 Shot, 10 Others Injured in Chaotic Sunday Night

PITTSBURGH, PA — A night meant for community and calm turned into terror and confusion late Sunday when gunfire erupted in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh, leaving five individuals with gunshot wounds and ten others hurt in the aftermath. The incident, which occurred around 11:45 p.m. near North Saint Clair and Broad streets, has sent shockwaves throughout the city and left local residents demanding answers and action.

Chaos Unfolds on a Summer Evening

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Bourne, police and emergency medical services responded swiftly to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported a mass shooting in the area. Upon arrival, first responders discovered multiple victims suffering from various injuries, including gunshot wounds and trauma from fleeing the scene in panic.

Three individuals were rushed by EMS to local hospitals:

  • Two of them had sustained gunshot wounds and were later listed in critical condition.
  • A third person suffered a graze wound and was reported in stable condition.

Shortly afterward, two additional victims arrived independently at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, both with gunshot injuries. Thankfully, both were listed in stable condition.

Meanwhile, 10 others sustained minor injuries, including graze wounds and fall-related trauma, likely incurred as they tried to escape the shooting. Bourne stated that none of these individuals required hospital transport, but EMS personnel treated them at the scene.

Investigation Underway, No Arrests Yet

As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. Police have not released details about potential suspects or a motive behind the violence. Detectives with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Violent Crime Unit continue to actively investigate, combing through evidence and seeking witness statements from those present at the scene.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or indiscriminate. The crime scene has been described as large and chaotic, with personal items, bullet casings, and other evidence left strewn across the area.

Community in Shock and Mourning

The East Liberty neighborhood, known for its ongoing revitalization and strong community ties, is reeling from the incident. Residents expressed sorrow and frustration as they awoke Monday to news of the violence.

“This isn’t just about numbers or statistics. These are people—someone’s child, sibling, friend,” said a local resident who asked to remain anonymous. “We need to come together, not only to grieve but to figure out how to stop this from happening again.”

Community leaders and clergy have already begun organizing vigil events and healing circles, hoping to provide support and solidarity to those affected.

A Familiar Tragedy

This shooting marks yet another tragic entry in the growing list of mass shootings across the country in 2025, raising further concerns about public safety, gun violence, and mental health support. Pittsburgh, which has seen its share of both progress and challenges, now grapples with the pain of another senseless act of violence in a public space.

Officials Call for Public Assistance

Police are urging anyone with information or video footage from the area of North Saint Clair and Broad Streets between 11:30 p.m. and midnight to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Pittsburgh Police Tip Line or through Crime Stoppers.

As investigators piece together what happened late Sunday night, one thing remains clear: Pittsburgh is once again mourning—and searching for peace, answers, and accountability.
