Homicide Investigation Underway After 15-Year-Old Rah’eim Taree Kelly Fatally Shot in Spartanburg
Spartanburg, South Carolina – June 27, 2025 – The Spartanburg Police Department has launched a homicide investigation following a tragic early-morning shooting that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy, now identified as Rah’eim Taree Kelly.
Officers were dispatched to a home on Bethel Street around 4:40 a.m. Friday, after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers entered the residence and immediately found a trail of blood leading to the second floor of the home. There, they discovered Kelly suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders transported the young victim to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, but despite efforts to save him, Rah’eim Kelly was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Witnesses Report Gunshots and Fleeing Suspects
According to law enforcement officials, witnesses at the scene reported hearing multiple gunshots just before spotting two individuals fleeing from the area. The suspects were last seen running toward Promised Land Drive and Kensington Drive, located near the site of the shooting.
Police have not yet released descriptions of the suspects, and no arrests have been made as of Friday afternoon. Investigators are now working tirelessly to gather surveillance footage, interview neighbors, and collect forensic evidence from the scene.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy for the family of this young victim,” said a spokesperson for the Spartanburg Police Department. “We are committed to bringing those responsible to justice, but we need the public’s help.”

The victim has been identified as Rah’eim Taree Kelly, a 15-year-old boy whose life was cut tragically short. Friends and family members have taken to social media to express grief, disbelief, and outrage over the senseless violence that claimed the teenager’s life.
Neighbors described Rah’eim as a kind-hearted and quiet young man, known for playing sports and staying close to family. He was a student at a local school and had dreams of one day playing football professionally.
“He was just a kid,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “This is heartbreaking — these shootings have to stop.”
