INDIANAPOLIS – Terrell Andrews, 16, Charged as Adult in Monument Circle Shooting That Injured Three
INDIANAPOLIS – Terrell Andrews, a 16-year-old from Indianapolis, has been formally charged as an adult after allegedly opening fire in the early morning hours of June 24, 2025, near Monument Circle, leaving three people injured and causing damage to nearby buildings. According to Marion County court records, Andrews faces a felony count of dangerous possession of a firearm by a juvenile with a prior conviction, among other pending charges.
Shooting Leaves Victims and Buildings Wounded
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded around 1:45 a.m. after shots were fired in the downtown area. Investigators say that Terrell Andrews discharged a weapon multiple times, striking three individuals and hitting three buildings in the vicinity. All injured victims were taken to local hospitals and are expected to recover.
Surveillance Footage Leads to Fast Arrest
Officers immediately began analyzing city surveillance footage. According to Detective Adam Ahmad, images from the cameras captured Andrews walking across Meridian Street shortly after the shooting. Around 2:18 a.m., officers located him near Washington and Meridian streets, where he was taken into custody.
Upon searching Terrell Andrews, police recovered an AM-15 rifle-style handgun, loaded and tucked into the waistband of his pants. Further footage showed Andrews brandishing and firing the weapon, and investigators recovered shell casings in the area consistent with the ammunition used.
Refused to Talk to Investigators
Following his arrest, Andrews was brought in for questioning but declined to speak with detectives, even after his father encouraged him to cooperate, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Due to his prior criminal history and the severity of the incident, prosecutors filed charges against Terrell Andrews as an adult. He is currently being held in juvenile detention pending further court proceedings.
A pretrial conference is scheduled for August 21, and a jury trial is set for August 27, 2025.
City Leaders and Police React
The shooting has sparked renewed concerns about youth violence in Indianapolis. Authorities credit the rapid use of surveillance technology and the quick response of IMPD officers for leading to Andrews’ arrest before anyone else was harmed.
Officials continue to call on the community to report illegal firearms and suspicious activity, especially involving juveniles. Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether others were involved.
Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact IMPD or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
