PHILADELPHIA – Joseph McGinnis Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting of Tyrone Brown Inside 7-Eleven

PHILADELPHIA – A devastating shooting inside a Tacony 7-Eleven has left 55-year-old Tyrone Brown dead and 43-year-old Joseph McGinnis charged with his murder. The deadly incident unfolded just after 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the 7-Eleven store located in the 6900 block of Torresdale Avenue, Philadelphia.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the confrontation between Brown and McGinnis started as a minor dispute inside the store, reportedly over navigating through an aisle near the video gambling machines. But what began as a trivial disagreement rapidly escalated into gun violence.

Surveillance footage and witness testimony confirm that McGinnis pulled a gun during the argument and fatally shot Tyrone Brown in the head. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

Chris Mullins, a friend of Brown who was present during the shooting, recalled the shooter’s unsettling composure:

“As Joseph McGinnis walked out of the store, he was calmly putting the gun back in his waistband. He acted like nothing had just happened.”

Following the shooting, McGinnis fled in a gold Chevrolet Malibu and parked outside his home on the 7000 block of Tulip Street, just three blocks from the scene. Surveillance video captured him walking into the house.

Authorities received a tip on McGinnis’ location about 30 minutes after the shooting. But when police arrived, McGinnis reportedly attempted to escape in his work van, leaving his young daughter inside the home. Officers with the Philadelphia SWAT team quickly moved in with armored vehicles and tactical gear, taking McGinnis into custody without incident. His daughter was safely removed from the residence.

Police say video footage from inside the store clearly shows McGinnis shooting Tyrone Brown. As a result, McGinnis has been formally charged with murder and remains in custody.

The tragic death of Tyrone Brown has left the local community shocked and grieving. Friends remember Brown as a regular presence in the neighborhood — a man who did not deserve to have his life ended over such a senseless dispute.

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office will proceed with prosecution as the investigation continues.
