WICHITA, KS — A broad-daylight shooting erupted on the 2700 block of W 2nd Street, leaving one man in his 20s dead and prompting a major emergency response. Multiple 911 callers reported 6 to 10 gunshots, with one witness seeing a man lying motionless on the ground and others describing an exchange of gunfire between two individuals. Another caller said one man dove over bushes trying to escape the chaos.
Police responded emergently (code 39) due to the high-risk nature of the address, which has seen 9 previous incidents since April 1st, including two recent aggravated batteries.
At 2:31 PM, video surveillance revealed two males fleeing, with one man shockingly seen carrying a baby in his arms during the escape.

Despite resuscitation efforts, by 2:55 PM he was officially retriaged code black (deceased) on scene. Shell casings were recovered, confirming multiple rounds were fired.
Authorities have not yet confirmed arrests but continue searching for the fleeing suspects. The baby seen with one of the men remains a concern. Investigators are also reviewing the property’s history, which has been the site of repeated violent incidents in recent months.
