Doyan Lee Pierce Charged in Kure Beach Shooting That Left Kentravion Jones Humphrey Critically Injured

KURE BEACH, N.C. — Authorities in Kure Beach have identified Doyan Lee Pierce, a 20-year-old resident of Jacksonville, as the suspect in a violent shooting that occurred early Saturday morning, June 28, leaving Kentravion Jones Humphrey hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Kure Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 4:40 a.m. to a residence located at 122 Hanby Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Kentravion Jones Humphrey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Following the investigation, Pierce was taken into custody and has been formally charged with:

  • One count of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, in connection with the shooting of Humphrey.
  • Two counts of misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, for allegedly threatening Ryan Alexander Lyall and Jason Michael McAleer by aiming a firearm at them without legal cause.

The magistrate’s order, issued on June 28, states that Doyan Pierce unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously assaulted Kentravion Humphrey using a .22-caliber revolver, with clear intent to kill or cause grave harm. In addition to shooting Humphrey, Pierce allegedly pointed the same weapon at Lyall and McAleer, escalating the danger at the scene.

As of Sunday, June 29, Doyan Lee Pierce is being held without bail at the New Hanover County jail. Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting or what events may have preceded the attack, but the investigation remains active.

Community Concerns

The shooting has shocked the normally peaceful beach community of Kure Beach. Residents expressed alarm over the violence and concern for the victim. “We’re praying for Kentravion’s recovery,” one neighbor said. “Things like this just don’t happen here — it’s frightening.”

As Kentravion Jones Humphrey continues to fight for his life, local authorities are urging the public to assist with any information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
