Trinity County Animal Control Officer Arrested for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

TRINITY COUNTY, TEXAS — A Trinity County Animal Control Officer has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, according to a statement released by Sheriff Woody Wallace on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The suspect, identified as Brandon Furman, was immediately placed on administrative leave and removed from his duties following the initial report of the alleged crime.

Authorities say the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) was first notified of the allegations on July 1. In an effort to ensure impartiality and integrity in the handling of the investigation, Sheriff Wallace requested that Trinity County Precinct 2 Constable Mark Cole take the lead on the case.

Following a prompt and thorough preliminary investigation, Constable Cole and investigators determined that there was sufficient probable cause to pursue an arrest warrant for Furman. Details about the alleged incident, including the identity of the victim and the nature of the evidence, have not been released due to the sensitive nature of the case and the involvement of a minor.

Furman, whose role involved working closely with the public and responding to animal-related incidents in Trinity County, was known in the community through his work in the Animal Control Division. The serious nature of the charges has left residents shocked and concerned.

“This is a very serious allegation, and we acted immediately to remove the individual from duty while the investigation was underway,” said Sheriff Wallace. “No one is above the law, and the safety and well-being of our children remain our top priority.”

The sheriff’s office has stated that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and that the matter is now in the hands of the judicial system. Furman is currently being held pending further legal proceedings. It is not yet clear whether bond has been set.

Community Reaction

News of the arrest has rippled through the rural East Texas community, with residents expressing a mix of anger, concern, and sadness over the disturbing allegations. Many are calling for transparency and justice, especially in light of Furman’s public service role.

“This is horrifying to hear,” said one local parent. “We trust these officials to protect and serve—not to harm. I hope justice is done.”

Local advocacy groups are also reminding the public of the importance of speaking out and reporting suspected abuse, emphasizing that timely reporting can help prevent further harm and bring perpetrators to justice.

Investigation Continues

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, officials have said no further details will be released until they are appropriate to share. However, authorities confirmed that the victim is safe and receiving support.

Sheriff Wallace and Constable Cole both urged the public to allow the legal process to unfold and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the community, especially its most vulnerable members.

Anyone with additional information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office or Precinct 2 Constable’s Office to assist with the ongoing investigation.
