VERMILION PARISH, LA — July 6, 2025 – A night of celebration turned into chaos on Saturday, July 5, as gunfire erupted at a party along Highway 338 in Vermilion Parish. According to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies swiftly responded to reports of a shooting, finding multiple victims and launching an investigation that would lead to the arrest of 18-year-old Tazavian Andrews.
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais confirmed that the shooting occurred at a large gathering in the rural area outside Abbeville. As law enforcement arrived on scene, they discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Miraculously, all three victims survived and were transported to Abbeville General Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The scene was described by witnesses as chaotic, with partygoers scrambling for cover after gunshots rang out. Investigators worked quickly to gather statements, review surveillance and phone footage, and identify the suspect.
By early Sunday morning, authorities had taken Tazavian Andrews into custody. Andrews, a local resident, has been charged with three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder in connection with the shooting. He is currently being held at the Vermilion Parish Jail on a bond set at $750,000.
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been publicly released, and investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led up to the violence. It remains unclear whether the victims were specifically targeted or caught in the crossfire of a broader altercation.
Sheriff Langlinais emphasized the seriousness of the charges and praised deputies for their quick response in preventing further violence and securing a swift arrest. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of our communities,” Langlinais stated. “Gun violence, especially in public settings like this, endangers countless lives and will not be tolerated in Vermilion Parish.”
As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are urging anyone who was present at the party or who has additional information to come forward. Detectives believe there may be more details that could help establish a clearer timeline of events and further strengthen the case against Andrews.
This incident has shaken residents of the typically quiet parish, serving as a troubling reminder of how quickly violence can erupt—even in settings meant for celebration. While the victims are expected to recover, the emotional scars and trauma of the experience will likely linger within the community.
Tazavian Andrews is expected to appear before a judge in the coming days. Legal proceedings will determine whether additional charges are warranted and whether his bond amount will be adjusted.
