It is with a saddened and heavy heart that we announce the passing of John Louis Maxwell, known lovingly by many as “Bimbo”, and fondly remembered in the Bunnell community as “Cabbage Sprout.” John passed away peacefully this morning, leaving behind a legacy filled with laughter, love, resilience, and unmistakable charm.
John was more than just a name known throughout Bunnell—he was a presence. A familiar face in the neighborhood, a storyteller, a hard worker, and someone who brought a special kind of light to every room he entered. For those who knew him best, “Bimbo” was more than a nickname—it was a term of endearment that symbolized his one-of-a-kind personality, quick wit, and the loyalty he showed to his family and friends.
To others, especially the locals who grew up with him or worked beside him, he was “Cabbage Sprout”—a title he wore with pride, deeply rooted in the community that raised him and that he helped shape in return. It was more than just a nickname; it was a symbol of his roots, his resilience, and his grounded nature. He knew where he came from, and he never forgot it.
John’s life was defined by hard work, humility, and humor. Whether he was offering a helping hand, sharing a laugh, or spinning a tale that had everyone leaning in, he had a way of making people feel at ease. He saw value in simple things—good food, good company, and honest work—and he lived his life with a deep appreciation for those blessings.
As a brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and neighbor, John touched countless lives. He had a unique gift for connection. He could make strangers feel like family and friends feel like they’d known him a lifetime. His legacy is not only in the stories people will tell about him, but in the feeling he left behind—a sense of joy, familiarity, and comfort that only he could bring.
The Bunnell community mourns the loss of a true original—someone who could never be replaced. His passing marks the end of a chapter for many who grew up hearing his name, sharing in his laughter, or simply knowing he was always around.
To his family, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences. The sorrow is immense, but so is the love. We hope you find comfort in knowing how much John meant to so many and how deeply his memory will be cherished.
A celebration of John’s life will be announced in the coming days, giving family and friends an opportunity to gather, to share stories, and to honor the legacy of a man who was truly unforgettable.
Rest easy, Bimbo. Rest easy, Cabbage Sprout. You will never be forgotten.
