Tragedy Strikes Philadelphia: Two Dead, Nine Injured in Memorial Day Mass Shooting at Fairmount Park

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A festive Memorial Day gathering turned tragic late Monday night when gunfire erupted at Fairmount Park, leaving two people dead and at least nine others injured, including three teenagers. The incident occurred around 10:27 p.m. near Lemon Hill Drive and Poplar Drive, where a large crowd had assembled for a cookout and car meet-up.   

Victims Identified

The Philadelphia Police Department has identified the two deceased victims as 23-year-old Amya Devlin and 21-year-old Mikhail Bowers. Both were transported to local hospitals but succumbed to their injuries.

Among the injured are a 15-year-old boy and two girls aged 16 and 17. Additionally, four women and two men between the ages of 18 and 28 sustained injuries. All injured individuals are reported to be in stable condition.

Chaos and Panic

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with attendees fleeing in all directions as shots rang out. One individual was reportedly struck by a vehicle during the ensuing panic.   

Investigation Underway

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel stated that the shooting occurred despite a visible police presence in the park. Authorities are investigating the possibility of multiple firearms being used, as video footage suggests rapid gunfire. No arrests have been made, and no weapons have been recovered from the scene.
