Shots Fired at MJ’s Pool Hall in Murfreesboro: 48-Year-Old Man Arrested Following Violent Disturbance

MURFREESBORO, TN — A frightening incident unfolded late Saturday night at a local entertainment venue in Murfreesboro when a man allegedly opened fire inside MJ’s Pool Hall, leaving one person injured and a glass door shattered. The suspect, 48-year-old Ronnie Malone, has been arrested by Murfreesboro Police in connection with the shooting.

According to the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD), officers were dispatched to the popular establishment following multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired inside the venue. The situation erupted after Malone, who had been reportedly causing a disturbance with the bartender, was asked to leave the premises. Witnesses told investigators that an argument escalated quickly, and once Malone was escorted out, he allegedly returned with a firearm.

Without warning, Malone is said to have fired multiple rounds, sending patrons scrambling for cover. One man, who has not been publicly identified, was struck in the leg by a bullet. Emergency medical personnel transported him to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. In the chaos, a glass door at the entrance of the pool hall was also shattered by gunfire.

Fortunately, no other injuries were reported, though police noted that the outcome could have been much worse given the number of people inside the building at the time. MJ’s Pool Hall, known for its relaxed atmosphere, music, and games, was crowded with weekend visitors when the violence broke out.

Officers arriving on the scene quickly secured the area and began searching for the suspect. Thanks to eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage, MPD was able to locate and arrest Ronnie Malone a short time later. He has since been charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and unlawful possession of a firearm, among other pending charges.

“This type of violence has no place in our community,” said MPD Public Information Officer Larry Flowers in a statement released Sunday. “We are thankful for the swift response by our officers and for the cooperation of witnesses who helped us bring this dangerous situation under control.”

MJ’s Pool Hall has announced that it will remain temporarily closed while repairs are made and staff recover from the traumatic event. Management issued a brief statement on social media thanking first responders and assuring customers that the safety and well-being of patrons remains their top priority.

The incident has sparked renewed conversation around public safety at nightlife venues and the importance of swift conflict resolution to prevent situations from spiraling into violence. Murfreesboro residents have expressed both shock and gratitude—shock that such a violent act could happen in a local gathering spot, and gratitude that it didn’t result in greater loss of life.

As of now, Ronnie Malone remains in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, and police say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine if additional charges may be warranted.
