In Loving Memory of Thomas Cunningham
Charlotte, North Carolina : With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Thomas Cunningham, a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor, who departed this life far too soon at the age of 38 on June 14, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though his time with us was cut short, Thomas leaves behind a legacy of compassion, laughter, and a deep sense of community that will echo in the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
Thomas was born on a cold winter morning—January 6, 1987—but he brought with him a warmth that never faded. Raised in Charlotte, he was a proud North Carolinian through and through. Whether it was cheering on the Panthers, enjoying summer cookouts with his close-knit family, or lending a hand to a neighbor in need, Thomas embodied the spirit of Southern hospitality and generosity in every aspect of his life.
A graduate of West Charlotte High School, Thomas went on to pursue a career in construction and project management. He was known not only for his meticulous work ethic and leadership but also for the respect he showed everyone he worked with, from clients to crew members. He believed in doing things the right way—with integrity, humility, and heart.
Outside of work, Thomas was the kind of person who made you feel seen. He had a natural gift for lifting people’s spirits, often with a well-timed joke, a listening ear, or a simple act of kindness. He never met a stranger, and his presence had a way of making every space feel lighter and more welcoming.
Thomas cherished time spent with family. He was a devoted son and a proud uncle who lit up every time he talked about his nieces and nephews. Holidays, Sunday dinners, and birthday celebrations were sacred to him. He could often be found at the grill, cracking jokes, telling stories, and making sure everyone had a full plate and a full heart.
Those who knew him best will remember him for his resilience through hard times, his loyalty to the people he loved, and the joy he brought to everyday moments. His departure leaves a deep void in the hearts of many, but his memory will live on in the laughter he inspired and the love he shared so freely.
A public viewing to honor Thomas’ life will be held on Thursday, June 20th, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at King’s Funeral Home in Charlotte. The funeral service will follow on Friday, June 21st, at 11:00 a.m., at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where Thomas had often attended community events and services with his family. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest surrounded by love, memory, and peace.
As we gather to remember and celebrate Thomas’ life, let us hold close the values he lived by—kindness, loyalty, and joy in the little things. In the face of sorrow, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to have loved someone whose absence is felt so deeply.
May he rest in eternal peace, and may we continue to carry his light forward in the way we treat one another.
