The community of Cazenovia, New York, and the extended family at Onondaga Community College (OCC) are reeling from the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Tyler “Ty” Freyer, a bright, talented young man whose life was tragically cut short. Ty, just beginning to carve out his path as a college freshman, passed away unexpectedly, leaving a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A proud member of the OCC Lazers Men’s Lacrosse Team, Ty wore jersey #2 with pride and passion. A gifted athlete and relentless competitor, he brought a fierce determination to the field, matched only by his sportsmanship, humility, and deep love for the game. His teammates, coaches, and fans remember him not only for his talent but for his leadership, his work ethic, and the way he lifted those around him. Whether in practice or competition, Ty played with heart — always giving his all, always cheering on others.
Born and raised in Cazenovia, Ty was a familiar face in the community — a hometown kid with a wide smile, a kind heart, and a fire in his soul. He graduated from Cazenovia High School, where he made a lasting impression both academically and athletically. On the lacrosse field, he earned the respect of opponents and admiration of fans. Off the field, Ty was known for his friendly demeanor, easygoing nature, and genuine kindness.
At Onondaga Community College, Ty had only just begun his collegiate journey, but in a short time, he had already made an indelible impact. Coaches describe him as a dream player — coachable, driven, and dependable. Friends and classmates remember his infectious energy, quick wit, and unshakable loyalty. He was a brother in every sense of the word — to his teammates, to his friends, and to his family.
Though his time on earth was far too brief, Ty lived it fully and fearlessly. He was a young man with big dreams — on the field and beyond. His untimely passing is a devastating blow to all who knew him, and as the community mourns, it also rallies in support of Ty’s family, friends, and teammates who must now face life without his bright presence.
The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed at this time, and the family has requested privacy as they navigate this unimaginable loss. Plans are currently underway for a celebration of life to honor Ty’s memory — not with sorrow alone, but with gratitude for the love, laughter, and light he brought to the world.
Ty is survived by his loving parents, siblings, extended family, teammates, coaches, and countless friends who will carry his spirit forward. As the OCC community and the town of Cazenovia come together in mourning, one truth remains unshakable: Ty Freyer’s legacy will endure — in every goal scored, every practice hustled through, every teammate lifted up.
Rest in peace, Ty. Your jersey may hang still, but your spirit will always be on the field. 🥍💙🕊️
