MILWAUKEE, WI — In Loving Memory of Anthony Edwards: Tragic Father’s Day Shooting Claims Life of Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Friend

MILWAUKEE, WI — A cloud of sorrow hangs heavy over Milwaukee as the community mourns the devastating and senseless loss of Anthony Edwards, a 56-year-old father, grandfather, and friend to many, who was shot and killed on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, 2025, near 51st and Center Street. What should have been a day of celebration and reflection became one of heartache and horror for the Edwards family and all who knew and loved him.

The incident unfolded just after 8:00 p.m., when reports of gunfire shattered the peaceful evening. Responding officers arrived quickly at the scene and found Anthony Edwards suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The area, normally bustling with families and neighbors, was cordoned off with police tape as investigators worked into the night to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

Milwaukee police have launched a full investigation into the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the family, now consumed by grief, is pleading for justice.

Anthony Edwards was more than a victim—he was a man defined by his love for his family, his community spirit, and his steady presence in the lives of those around him. A lifelong Milwaukee resident, Anthony was known for his warm smile, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his children and grandchildren. Those who knew him say he was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer advice, or simply share a laugh on the porch.

“Father’s Day will never be the same,” said Tameka Edwards, Anthony’s daughter, fighting back tears. “He was our rock. He was supposed to be here, sitting with us, laughing and enjoying his day—not taken from us in such a violent way.”

Neighbors gathered at the site of the shooting Monday morning to light candles, place flowers, and share stories of the man they affectionately called “Tony.” A growing memorial continues to take shape—a testament to the love and respect he earned during his lifetime.

Family members are not only mourning the loss of Anthony but also raising their voices in calls for an end to gun violence that has plagued their neighborhood and too many others like it. “We’re not just burying a father,” said family friend James Porter, “we’re burying generations of wisdom, love, and guidance. We’re demanding answers. We’re demanding change.”

Milwaukee Police Department is actively reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and seeking tips from the public. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS (8477).

A vigil is scheduled for Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. near the intersection of 51st and Center, where community members will gather to remember Anthony’s life, mourn his loss, and stand united against violence.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Edwards family and will be announced in the coming days. In the meantime, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist with burial expenses and support the grandchildren Anthony helped raise.

As Milwaukee grieves, the loss of Anthony Edwards leaves a painful void—one not just in his family’s hearts but in the fabric of a community that has lost one of its own. May his memory be a blessing, and may justice bring peace to those he leaves behind.
