Tangipahoa Parish Grandmother Fatally Shot; Grandson and Two Others Arrested in Disturbing Case
TICKFAW, LA — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has arrested three individuals, including the grandson of the victim, in connection to the fatal shooting of 65-year-old Annette Jackson over the weekend. The senseless act has shocked the small Tickfaw community and left a grieving family and town searching for answers.
The primary suspect, 19-year-old Jaiden Dillon, has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Failure to Report a Felony, and Obstruction of Justice following the Saturday night shooting. Two additional suspects, 25-year-old Nijah Dillon and 30-year-old Benjamin White, face charges of Accessory After the Fact to Second Degree Murder.
A Quiet Evening Turns Tragic
The shooting occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at a residence located in the 14000 block of Pine Road in the rural community of Tickfaw, Louisiana. Deputies responded to a report of gunfire at the location and discovered Annette Jackson outside her home, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.
Emergency personnel quickly transported Jackson to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
A Grandson Accused of Murder
Detectives say that Jaiden Dillon, the victim’s grandson, was living at the residence at the time of the shooting. Investigators allege that Jaiden shot his grandmother through the closed and locked front door as she returned home from a grocery store trip.
“This was not an accidental discharge or self-defense situation,” said a spokesperson for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. “The suspect fired through a door, hitting his own grandmother. And then fled the scene without seeking help or notifying anyone.”
Authorities say Dillon did not attempt to provide aid or call for emergency services. Instead, he allegedly fled the residence, leaving Annette Jackson mortally wounded on her front steps.
The Investigation Unfolds
The Sheriff’s Office launched an immediate investigation, which led to the swift arrest of Jaiden Dillon. In the hours following the incident, detectives uncovered information indicating that two other individuals, Nijah Dillon and Benjamin White, had knowledge of the crime and attempted to assist Jaiden in evading justice.
As a result, Nijah and White were arrested and charged as accessories after the fact. Authorities believe the pair may have helped conceal evidence or facilitated Jaiden’s attempt to avoid law enforcement.
A Community in Mourning
The loss of Annette Jackson, described by neighbors as a loving grandmother and well-known member of the community, has left a devastating emotional impact on those who knew her.
“Annette was the heart of her family,” said one neighbor. “She was kind, dependable, and always helping others. To know she was taken in such a horrific way, by someone she raised—it’s just unimaginable.”
The shooting has reignited concerns about gun violence and family conflict, particularly in rural communities where access to mental health and crisis support services may be limited.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
All three suspects remain in custody at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail as investigators continue to build their case. Prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they will pursue additional charges or enhancements. It is unclear at this time whether a motive has been fully established or if mental health evaluations will play a role in the defense.
TPSO is urging anyone with additional information related to the case to contact their office directly. Investigators are working to piece together the full sequence of events that led to the death of a woman whose only intention that evening was to return home safely with groceries.
“This case is heartbreaking on every level,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We want justice for Annette Jackson and closure for her family.”
Remembering Annette Jackson
As legal proceedings begin, the community is rallying around Annette’s memory. A candlelight vigil is expected to be held later this week in Tickfaw, where friends, neighbors, and loved ones will gather to honor her life and support her grieving family.
Rest in peace, Annette Jackson. May your memory be a blessing and your voice be heard through the justice you deserve.
