Naugatuck Woman Talita Sonia De Carvalho Silva Arrested After Leaving Infant and Child in Hot Car

NAUGATUCK, CT — June 25, 2025 — A disturbing incident at the Naugatuck Walmart has led to the arrest of 30-year-old Talita Sonia De Carvalho Silva, who police say left her 1-month-old baby and 8-year-old child locked inside a hot car while she shopped.

According to the Naugatuck Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot after concerned bystanders reported that a vehicle’s alarm was sounding and a child inside was trying to escape. When officers arrived, they found both children crying, sweating profusely, and clearly distressed. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported the children to a local hospital for evaluation due to potential heat-related illnesses.

Shortly after, Silva returned from inside the store and approached the vehicle. Officers detained her on the spot and placed her under arrest following questioning.

Charges Against Talita Sonia De Carvalho Silva

Silva now faces the following charges:

•Two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor

•Two counts of Reckless Endangerment

•Two counts of Leaving a Child Under 12 Unsupervised in a Vehicle

She was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on July 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

A Warning on Heat Dangers

Authorities emphasize that this situation could have turned fatal. Even on days that don’t feel excessively hot, temperatures inside a parked vehicle can reach life-threatening levels within minutes. Children are particularly vulnerable, as their bodies heat up three to five times faster than adults.

“This incident involving Talita Silva is a tragic reminder of how quickly a situation can become dangerous,” said Naugatuck Police. “Leaving children unattended in a vehicle, even for a short time, poses a serious threat to their lives.”

NPD Urges Caution and Vigilance

To help prevent further tragedies, the Naugatuck Police Department reminds the public:

Always check your backseat before leaving your car.

Never leave a child alone in a vehicle, even with the windows cracked.

Lock parked vehicles to prevent curious children from climbing in unnoticed.

If you see a child left alone in a car, call 911 immediately.

The case is listed under NPD Case Number: 2500015086. Anyone with additional information may contact the Naugatuck Police Department or submit tips anonymously.
