Fair Oaks, CA – June 28, 2025 — Authorities have arrested 27-year-old Michael Brown in connection with the violent stabbing of James Thompson, which occurred Thursday evening in Fair Oaks.
On June 26, deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Patrol Division responded to a report of a stabbing in the 5500 block of Dewey Drive. When they arrived, they found Thompson, an adult male, who had suffered multiple stab wounds. He had managed to stagger into a nearby church, where parishioners quickly rendered aid and called 911. Deputies continued emergency life-saving efforts until medics arrived. Thanks to the swift actions of the churchgoers and deputies, Thompson survived and was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
The investigation into the attack continued through the night as deputies worked to identify and locate the suspect.
The following evening, on June 27, deputies were dispatched to a “threats with a knife in progress” call in the 6700 block of Madison Avenue, also in Fair Oaks. There, they detained a man matching the description of the suspect in the previous night’s stabbing. He was identified as Michael Brown.
After questioning and evidence review, investigators determined Brown was responsible for stabbing James Thompson. Brown was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is currently being held without bail. He faces multiple felony charges and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office praised the community and church members for their quick response, which likely saved Thompson’s life. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is urged to contact law enforcement.
