WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – A chaotic and violent scene unfolded in downtown Wichita late Friday night, leaving one person critically injured following a shooting near a busy convenience store.

According to Sedgwick County dispatch, the shooting occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. on June 28, 2025, at the QuikTrip located at Douglas and Washington. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a single victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The individual was immediately transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Details surrounding the incident remain limited at this time. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or any potential suspects. Police have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random, and there has been no word on arrests or persons of interest.

Dispatch also reported receiving a “paramedic in trouble” call shortly before the shooting was logged.
