FORT MCCOY, Fla. — Community Mourns the Loss of Zack Compton, 27, Following Tragic Motorcycle Crash
FORT MCCOY, Fla. — A quiet Friday evening in Fort McCoy turned tragic as news spread of a fatal crash that claimed the life of Zack Compton, a 27-year-old motorcyclist from Citra. The devastating incident occurred near the intersection of Northeast 160th Avenue and Northeast 130th Street Road, prompting a swift response from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and emergency services.
According to FHP, the collision involved a motorcycle and a sedan and was reported just after 6:30 p.m. on June 28, 2025. Preliminary investigations indicate that Zack Compton was traveling southbound on his motorcycle when a sedan traveling in the opposite direction attempted to turn left into a private driveway. The turn placed the sedan directly in the path of Compton’s motorcycle, resulting in a violent impact.
Despite the rapid arrival of first responders, Compton sustained catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver of the sedan, though it has been confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether any charges will be filed.
The sudden loss of Zack Compton has sent shockwaves through Citra and the greater Marion County area, where he was known as a loyal friend, caring son, and passionate motorcyclist. Those close to him describe Zack as someone who lived with intensity and heart, embracing life with a fearless spirit and a deep appreciation for the road. He loved the freedom of riding and the community that came with it — always ready to join a group ride or lend a hand in the garage.

One friend wrote, “Zack had a heart as big as his smile. He lived life full throttle, and we’ll never forget the way he made everyone around him feel.”
As the investigation continues, local residents and motorcycle enthusiasts alike are calling for increased awareness and caution on the road — a plea to drivers to “look twice and save a life” when turning or sharing space with motorcycles.
A memorial ride in Zack’s honor is being organized by friends and fellow riders, who plan to retrace some of his favorite local routes before ending at a community gathering spot to celebrate his life and legacy.
