SPD Investigating Shots Fired at Walmart on Crossroads Drive — One Arrest Made, Search Continues for Second Suspect

STATESVILLE, NC — A Sunday afternoon shooting in the parking lot of the Walmart on Crossroads Drive has led to the arrest of 18-year-old Keandre Terrell Cauthen, while police continue searching for a second suspect. The incident occurred on June 29, 2025, just after 1:35 p.m., when officers with the Statesville Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at the retail location on 1116 Crossroads Drive.

Upon arriving, officers found a vehicle in the lot that had been struck by gunfire, along with several shell casings. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The gunfire followed a shoplifting incident inside the store, according to investigators.

After reviewing video footage and speaking with witnesses, SPD identified a suspect vehicle that fled the area. That vehicle was later found at a residence, where Cauthen was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with:

  • Discharging a Firearm into Occupied Property
  • Misdemeanor Larceny

He is currently being held on a $100,000 secured bond.

Authorities believe at least one other person was involved and are working to identify and locate the second suspect. The Statesville Police Criminal Investigations Division continues to lead the investigation.
