LaGrange, GA – July 3, 2025 — A man was shot and injured Thursday afternoon at the Woodland Trail Apartments on North Davis Road, prompting a swift response from the LaGrange Police Department. The suspect, Michael J. Ford, was taken into custody shortly after the incident as he attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers were able to apprehend Ford without incident.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, according to medical staff.
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the LaGrange Police Department is now leading the investigation. Detectives believe that Michael J. Ford, 43, and the victim were known to one another, though the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Ford is a convicted felon with a history of violent offenses. At the time of the shooting, he was on parole for previous convictions of attempted murder and aggravated assault. Following his arrest on Thursday, Ford was formally charged with:
•Aggravated Assault
•Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
•Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
LaGrange police emphasized that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
“This is a case where quick action by officers likely prevented further violence,” said a spokesperson for the LaGrange Police Department. “We are thankful for the community’s support and encourage anyone with information to come forward to assist our investigation.”
