In Loving Memory of Joe Fosina — New Rochelle Mourns a True Community Giant

New Rochelle, NY – With profound sorrow and immense gratitude for a life well-lived, the city of New Rochelle bids farewell to one of its most cherished citizens. Joe Fosina, a cornerstone of the city’s sports, civic, and community life, passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, mentorship, and unwavering local pride.

For more than five decades, Joe Fosina was a guiding force in youth athletics, most notably through his tireless work with the New Rochelle Youth Tackle League, where he served as both coach and league president. Generations of young athletes—many of whom went on to become coaches, community leaders, and parents themselves—credit Joe with not only teaching them the game of football, but also instilling lifelong lessons of discipline, teamwork, and integrity.

In recognition of his incredible contributions, a youth football and soccer field was named in his honor—a lasting tribute that continues to echo with the sounds of young players chasing dreams and building friendships, just as Joe envisioned.

But Joe’s influence extended far beyond the football field. He also served for 11 years on the New Rochelle City Council, where his voice, passion, and dedication helped shape city policy and push for improvements that benefitted youth programs, parks, and public services. A man of action and principle, he was respected by colleagues and constituents alike for his honesty, compassion, and deep-rooted belief in the power of community.

For decades, Joe also lent his talents to the New York Yankees, managing uniforms and equipment for the legendary franchise. His behind-the-scenes work was marked by the same attention to detail, humility, and pride he brought to every endeavor.

Joe’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void, not only in the civic and sporting fabric of New Rochelle but also in the hearts of the many lives he touched. He is survived by his beloved wife, six children, 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren—a family as deeply loved as the man who led it.

“Joe Fosina wasn’t just a coach or a councilman—he was the heartbeat of New Rochelle,” said a local official. “His legacy lives on every time a kid picks up a football at Fosina Field, every time a family gathers at a game, and every time someone chooses to serve their community the way he did.”

As the community mourns his loss, plans are underway to honor his life and contributions with memorial events, ensuring his remarkable spirit continues to inspire future generations.

Rest in peace, Joe Fosina. New Rochelle will never forget you. Your name, your leadership, and your love for this city will echo for generations to come.
